Huacachina
"even in the desert, you can find an oasis"
An Iconic Weekend
Huacachina and Paracas have no shortage of experiences that will leave you jaw-dropped! The itinerary was curated by the amazing City Team I worked while as a Community Leader with Remote Year. Our group's weekend excursion was the perfect balance between an adrenaline-fueled adventure and a relaxing outdoor escape.
One of the first things we did when reaching Paracas was hit the coastline. The water was glistening, and the sun was hitting just right! After soaking in some sunshine, it was time for a weekend of sand dunes and getting that adrenaline rushing. We took on activities like sandboarding (a must-do!) and bombing dunes as we hit what felt like 90 mph on ATV-like jeeps (sorry, not sure what these bad boys are called).
It was easy to balance the adrenaline high with a bit of calm as we reached each new oasis. I was just expecting to see Huacachina, but our City Team packed this weekend with a few surprises, and I was loving every bit of it. Especially when it ended in the middle of the dunes with a picnic and bonfire to watch the sunset, offering a picturesque 360-view, tunes to groove to, snacks to munch on, sippin' on some drinks, and great vibes with amazing people.
You would think that was enough to fill our weekend, but no, there’s more! We enjoyed a wine tasting, which was hilariously delivered as they acknowledged that Peru isn’t exactly known for producing tasty wine. We also took a boat ride to the Paracas National Reserve that showcased a collection of rocky islands where we found some sea lions and penguins just chillin'.
Whether you're traveling solo or in a group, as I did, here are some valuable tips to consider as you prepare for your trip to Peru! These tips might just save you save you time, money, and your phone.
Once I reached the 'City in the Sky,' I felt as if I were standing in one of the greatest sources of creativity. As I roamed through its terraces and learned about its wonders, it felt like I was fueling my tank, ready to strike like lightning out of the clouds.
